BIAYENDA Music Band

Senegal

Twenty years after showing its marvelous performances on stage, the BIAYENDA Music Band was able to build up its own reputation as one of the best Senegalese bands. The band comprises fifteen amateur singers. It was first established in 1996 in Dakar by a group of youth who adored the art of singing. The band consistently performed various types of music, gathering between both classical music and modern music (folklore and international). It transcended continents, surpassed eras and diversified its origins from spiritual music, through romantic, to religious and reaching comic music, with a tendency towards African melodies and rhythms. It urges us to re-discover and unveil the musical treasures of our continent that dates back to our ancestors and to the native people of the Black Continent. On the stage, the band collaborated with celebrities and pioneer singers such as Michel PIQUEMAL, and various bands abroad such as Vittoria d'Ile de France. It also collaborated with Senegalese artists such as Coumba Gawlo Seck, Metzo Djata and Yoro Ndiaye  who is always accompanied by the Cameroonian Saxophonist Alain Oyono on stage, with their masterpiece song Mbëggel. After its first album, the band is preparing to issue its second album on 2016, celebrating its twentieth anniversary. It has been always present in major local events as it took part in the International Les CAL'U Festival in 2011, the Day of Senegalese Music Bands in Senegal in 2010 and in the celebrations of the International Day for the Francophone. The band was also invited by the "SAWT" Festival in Casablanca in April 2015, and participated in the EHLOME in Lome in 2007.

On the social level, since its inception, the band has been engaged in many charitable works for devastated people (the sick, the disabled and prisoners). Today it dedicates a large part of its efforts for the benefit of needy children (those with mental disabilities, physical disabilities, and street children). The band’s doctrine band is to be involved in creating a more humane face to the world we all live in, and rise above our differences for a better future.
