Artist Ateya Sharara

He was born in 1923 and joined King Fouad’s Musical institute in 1941 where he started to learn playing the western violin. He also studied harmony and theories besides the science of musical instruments, Also the history of Arabic music through stanzas and Shiekh Darweesh Al Hariri.

He played music with great composers like Ryad Al Sonbaty, Al Kasabgy, Zakarya Ahmed and Om Kalthoum’s band. In 1948, he composed traditional tracks like Nights of Light “Layaly Al Nour” and others, which made him popular through the radio. Besides being a composer, he was the lead violinist in the radio music band, after which he was appointed as the band’s conductor in 1954. He established his own honorary music band Takht that played his eastern tracks and played music for popular Egyptian and Arab Artists. In 1956, he was chosen to work for the Tunisian Radio, Then, he moved to Jordan to participate in the foundation of the Arabic Music Institute in Amman.  He started teaching at the institute as soon as it was open in 1966 and until the war broke out in 1967 when he decided to go to Lebanon. There he founded the Western Music Band in 1969. He went back to Libya and founded another music band in Benghazi and settled there for 10 years, which was the most prosperous period of music composition for him. He also published a book about teaching the oriental violin called “Arabic Curriculum on the Violin”. In 1979 he returned to Egypt and founded the “Sudasi Sharara” “Six-Spark” band. In 1981 he taught the violin in the Arabic Music Institute, affiliated to the Fine Arts Academy, and taught stanzas at the Higher Institute of Music "Alkoonsirvetoar". In 1982, he founded the National Arabic Music Band and he took command of Reda’s Folk Arts Band till 1986. Now, he is a part-time Professor of Violin and Arabic Music Composition in the Fine Arts Academy in Cairo. He won the State Incentive Award for Music Composition in 1983, the Medal of Science and Arts of the first class in 1985 and the Medal of Science, Art and Culture of the second class from Sultan Qaboos in Oman, 2005.

Dr. Muhammad Zafar

Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal is well known musicologist and classical singer of Pakistan. He started singing classical and light music but now he has startted singing sufi music. He has established his musical band named Marifat Sufi Band of Pakistan. He believes that sufi music has a wonderful potential to promote love, peace and interfaith harmony across the world. He has the view that sufi music can be used to bring a social change in the world. His message to the world is this that we should think beyond the boundaries of religion, color, race, language and land. Live long human kind.

French artist Caroline Dumas

Caroline started her musical studies at a very young age at the Conservatoire National de Nîmes, where she won many awards. She then completed her musical training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris where she passed brilliantly the entry exam and was later the youngest graduate with three First Prizes. She was subsequently engaged as a soloist at l’Opéra de Paris, where she sang major roles. As a student of Charles PANZERA, she maintains the French singing tradition and while pursuing her career, she also teaches vocal technique and interpretation at l’École Normale de Musique de Paris.

Anba Ermia

Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil El-Hosary was born in 1917 in Tanta, Egypt. In his last days, he was keen to construct a mosque and establish an Islamic institute, and Quran school in his hometown Shubra El-Namla. He passed away in 1980. Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil El-Hosary is one of the renowned Quran readers in the Islamic world, and was the first to call for setting up a syndicate for Quran readers to protect their rights and ensure them a good life. He also asserted the importance of establishing Quran centres in all cities and towns across the country. He applied for the position of a Quran reader at the Egyptian Radio; November 16th, 1944 marks his first time on air. He wrote many books and earned a Science and Arts Award in 1967 on Science Day.
