Baul sect is basically nomads whose religious philosophy goes back over 1000 years. One of the main tenets of Baul cult is love for humanity - irrespective of their casts and creed, faith and religion, color and custom. Baul speaks about the universal mysteries of life in simple words to touch the heart of common man. Baul seek their own person throughout their songs. Their sadhana is singing spiritual songs. According to Baul Philosophy, the soul or the "MONER MANUSH" is nothing but the god within oneself who has to be perceived and realized through inner enlightment...

A true Baul is he, who searches for god in human.

SHORT DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE FATHER:

NABANI DAS KHEPA BAUL was the celebrated Baul singer and philosopher of Bengal. He tried to spread the Baul songs through his unique singing style at that time. He was the friend of Like Rabindra nath tagore, Tarasankar, Kazi Nazrul, etc... He gave his labour for Indian revolution at British time through his songs. Many great writers wrote books on Baul guru in Bengali & English. He is the father of the great "BAUL SAMRAT PURNA DAS". He died in 1964 after passing his legacy to his son “Baul Samarat Purna Das”

SHORT DESCRIPTION ABOUT PURNA DAS BAUL SAMRAT

He was born in 1933 in the village Ekchakka near the town of Rampurhat. Purna Chandra means ‘full moon’.

Today Purna Das is the most popular exponent of Baul music. He was awarded the prestigious title Baul Samrat  the ‘Emperor of Bauls’ by the President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1967. He received another President’s Award (Sangeet Natak Award) in 1999 by the President of India Shri K.R. Narayanan. Purna Das has appeared on radio, television and in films worldwide both as a singer and music director. He has worked with artistes such as John Buzz, Bob Dylan, Mick Jigger, Mahalia Jackson, Peter Paul Marry, Allen Ginsberg, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Marley, The Bands, Peter Gabriel  and others. He received a lot of awards and participated in many local and international festivals.
