The Woman’s Drum Ensemble

General:

The Woman’s Drum Ensemble was founded by Mrs. Suha Muhammad Ali, and it consists of a group of women who sing collective songs of Egyptian heritage and folklore, accompanied by percussion instruments. The ensemble’s songs belong to the various governorates of Egypt, from Upper Egypt to the coasts, to Nubia, to the oases. It expresses the conditions of women, in states of joy and states of distress. The band works to break down barriers between country and city music, and to create a bond between them.
