It was founded in 1969 with an aim to introduce Estonian folk dances and music to tourists. Leigarid regularly perform at the Estonian Open-Air Museum in Tallinn
Leigarid performs dances, songs, games and instrumental music, collected from all over Estonia. Most part of them is social dances from different historical layers. Games, played during the performance, usually have a narrative that is understandable even without any knowledge of Estonian language. The costumes as well as the dances and music, reflect the temporal and individual variability of Estonian traditions.
